How does NeET work?
The therapy-provided by the University of Aberdeen spin out company, Sight Science Ltd. which has been licensed to provide therapy to all EU residence - is called Neuro-Eye Therapy (NeET).
NeET Visual Rehabilitation ProgramCE consists of the following stages:
- Evaluation of initial suitability
- Design of Visual Rehabilitation ProgramCE
- Monitoring of progress and results
Evaluation of initial suitability
In order to allow us to tailor a Vision Rehabilitation ProgramCE for you, we need to assess your recent eye examination details. More specifically a copy of your monocular and binocular visual fields. Your optician may already have all the details we require in your file or will be able to carry out the relevant examinations.
Design of Visual Rehabilitation ProgramCE
Each person has a unique pattern of vision loss following a stroke or other brain injury. On receipt of the above information we can tailor the Visual Rehabilitation ProgramCE to your specific needs.
The Visual Rehabilitation ProgramCE is a non invasive, computer mediated training task. Your program is uploaded on to a laptop computer and sent out to you so that you can do the therapy at home. Each session takes approximately 20-25 minutes once or twice daily for a minimum of 5 days per week for an initial period of 6 months. During each session you are required to respond to images on the computer screen.
All of our support is provided remotely, so you don’t need to come and see us.
Importantly, the device is very simple to use and does not require previous computer experience.
Monitoring of progress and results
During your therapy sessions you will be seated in front of your laptop. In each session you are required to keep your eyes fixated on a central point. You then have to respond to target stimuli which will be presented along the border between your sighted and affected visual field.
Your progress is monitored on a monthly basis. Based on your data return we provide you with progress reports throughout your therapy duration.
During this period we will also update your program as and when required so that we obtain optimal stimulation for your progression. All updates of the program are performed remotely.
